Toronto, ON | May 2018 - July 2022

Bioinformatician (Prev. Research Technologist)

Aug 2019 - July 2022

I worked as a Bioinformatician in the lab of Dr. Adam Shlien (Associate Director, Translational Genetics, DPLM; Scientist, Genetics and Genome Biology; co-Director, KiCS cancer sequencing program). This lab used the tools of modern sequence-based genomics to discover the mutations present in the genomes of pediatric cancer patients. The goal of the lab's work was to contribute to the introduction of cutting-edge genomics, such as whole genome sequencing, into clinical practice.

In my role, I provided technical (data transfer, analysis and programming) assistance to students, fellows and researchers in the lab. I also developed novel analysis pipelines and maintained and improved existing pipelines. Finally, I performed analyses for the SickKids Cancer Sequencing (KiCS) Program which was a Precision Oncology program with the goal of learning more about the genomes of participants’ tumour and healthy cells in order help guide their therapy and future surveillance.

Summer Research Student

May 2018 - Aug 2018

I first joined Dr. Shlien's lab in the Summer of 2018 as a Summer Research Student participating in the SickKids Summer Research (SSuRe) program. For my project, I wrote a variety of Python and R scripts in order to draw useful insights from a large dataset of over 450,000 DNA probes and over 5,000 cancer samples spanning 31 cancer types. I presented my findings in the form of a written abstract as well as a poster presentation. Manuscript in progress.
